Why You Need To See The Dentist Every 6 Months

We understand that many people do not enjoy visiting the dentist. Whether you have fear or anxiety associated with sitting in the dentist's chair or it's just simply not a priority to you, we want to make your visit as simple and comfortable as possible. At Cape Lookout Family Dental in Morehead City, our dental team will work with you to make you as comfortable as possible while taking care of your dental needs.

Clean Your Teeth & Remove Build Up

Dental hygienists use your bi-yearly dental visits to give your teeth and gums a deep cleaning. They scrape the built up plaque and tartar away, floss and often times give a fluoride treatment. When you avoid the dentist, your teeth may accumulate more plaque and tartar that will become very difficult to remove.

Preventative Care

As we mentioned above, when you avoid the dentist, plaque and tartar build up. Plaque is full of bacteria and can eat away at the enamel on your teeth. Allowing your dentist and hygienist to get rid of the plaque and properly clean your teeth will prevent farther damage or more serious health issues.

Save You Money in The Future

Some dental care can be expensive, especially if you have serious dental health problems to deal with and treat. By preventing these health problems, you'll say money in the long run.

Better Health

Did you know that your dental health is directly correlated to your overall health? By taking good care of your teeth and gums, you'll ensure that you're less at risk for other health issues. People with gum disease and poor oral health are more likely to develop other health issues such as diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, pregnancy problems, heart disease and more.

If you have dental health problems or are at risk for developing dental problems, it may be necessary for you to visit the dental more than just twice a year. People who smoke cigarettes, women who are pregnant, people with diabetes or gum disease, those who have weak immune systems or who get cavities often will need to check with their dentist about getting on a regular dental appointment schedule.
